Greetings SolidWorks and PDMWorks Gurus,

In the Workgroup PDMWorks Vault, the project tree lists only the latest documents by default. If I would like to see an archived revision of a part, I can right click on the data set, call up the Document Information dialog, and pull down from Revision box. No problem here.

I would like to know if it is possible to have all archived document revision data show in the PDMWorks vault project tree list? (read only, of course)

For example:

My Vault (localhost)/divisionary
-Project1
- - Part1.sldprt <01> <archived>
- - Part1.sldprt <02> <archived>
- - Part1.sldprt <03> <latest>

Would there happen to be a vault setting for this?

Thanks and Regards,

Wayne

Thank you for your reply, Matt.

I can appreciate the intent to have only the latest revision data set in the project tree. Only, It seems intuitive and logical for the vault to apply the same rule to access all revisions in the lifecycle... for instance, in this example showing lifecycle status. At a glance, one can tell which document revision is approved to send to the supplier. Or which revision should be in the latest BOM in development.

My Vault (localhost/divisionary)
-Project1
- - Part1.sldprt <01> <archived> <Archived>
- - Part1.sldprt <02> <active> <Released>
- - Part1.sldprt <03> <latest> <Draft>

Today, we can end up with a situation like this:

My Vault (localhost/divisionary)
-Project1
- - Part1.sldprt <05> <latest> <draft>

and one would not know that 02 is the released one.

I appreciate your help as I am still learning about PDMWorks. It just seems logical to be able to 'toggle' the vault tree view to access all revisions of a SW document.

Thanks and Regards,

The main problem is that the vault can have only one file with a particular file name. It would require different file names for each revision in order to do what you originally asked. That would defeat the purpose of the vault.

What you are describing in your recent message is one of the limitations of Workgroup PDM. You have to "know" which revision to pull for a particular purpose. You might be able to play around with "lifecycles" tab (note "scare quotes" around "lifecycles" :) ) to set up a scenario to lock the item within the vault. This would be a flag to the person that they need to look farther than the lastest check-in.

Thanks Matt,

Your point regarding the multiple filename problem is understood.

We'll find a good solution given the tools we have to work with. The fun comes from trying to master such tools without blowing them up in the process. :)

Your advice is Much Appreciated!
