I have an ac generator I am trying to evaluate. It is Made by O'Keefe & Merritt. When I hold in on the start switch, the unit starts. But when I let go of the start switch, I lose my output. It is as though the start relay is not being latched. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thanks

It may be arranged for remote control from a transfer switch. If so, the machine will require a maintained contact to run. The generator will have a circuit card which will terminate cranking when the unit starts and monitor oil pressure and water temperature, among other features.
If the generator is arranged for use with an automatic transfer switch, it may require a maintained contact rather than a momentary push-button.

cccelcj,
I think there was a revision on that stuff which you never kow; Try to ask somebody, perhaps your electrical personnel or the operator. When a substantial revision was done or half undone such as by pass wiring against the existing, this might leads to undesirable operation.
I pressume you have a small genset, usually it is started or stopped by solenoid.

Page 27 instructs to hold start button until oil pressure builds watch gauge but do not hold button longer then 20 seconds. And then it gives trouble shooting procedures.

You will need to download all three pdf. files for complete
book, go to bottom of page for all three links.
