is anybody having experience with Peat? please share your knowledge to me.
does peat with undrained shear strength about 50kPa contribute to pile skin friction?
if you have some references those will be helpful as well, manythanks

I would not think that most peat has an undrained shear strength of 50 kPa - it is likely more in the range of 10 to 20 kPa - unless it is highly fibrous. I would also discount any skin friction (for support). I would be very careful in that any fill placed to raise grade or to provide a base for your structure would cause the peat to consolidate and you would have to consider some negative skin friction (down drag).

What a lot of information is out there on this subject. Canadians, Russians and English have published many p0apers. If a search is done in the general topic of Canadian peat, I'd expect a lot of information, especially dealing with construction. Doing a search for "Peat strength", a lot is available that should answer your question. On the line of "pile skin friction" my main concern in he past was negative skin friction since the piles by passed it for support, but it may have added loads to the piles.

so, I understand the peat mechanism.
