PED Classification of Jackets

Hi
I’m trying to complete PED classification for a pressure vessel with limpet coil. I cant decide what way I should analysis the jacket, i.e is it a vessel or a pipe?

Any ideas?

Hi rubber,
The jacketed vessel is a pressure vessel, designed per the pressure vessel code (I assume you weld the pipe/halfpipe to the exterior of the shell, don't you?). That is, the inner vessel is designed for internal pressure and additionally to external pressure exerted by the coil.

Yes it is a pressure vessel dsigned to EN 13445 3/-1 barg (160/-20 Dec C). The limpet coil (10/-1 barg, 160/-20 Deg C, capacity 552L) is welded to the exterior of the pressure vessel shell.

Vessel is a group 1 fluid.
Jacket is a group 2 fluid.

So what PED group should the jacket be?

The PED category is the highest of the two.(probably cat.4)
The groups you mention stay two different groups.
