I wanted to know if there are any US codes that apply to the permissible concrete temperature at the time of placing. Thanks.

Dear Shylesh,

Initial Placing temperature will directly affect the maximum temperature rise after placing. It also affects rate of heat dissipation during hydration process. In mass concrete placing, it's more advantage to reduce initial temperature as practically low as possible.Particularly for massive structure, it's necessary that you concern about the stress induced from heated generatation (by numerical analysis). The simple and conservative way is to look into adiabatic heat generation curve of using cement and then use factor safety = 2.0 to control your cement content in mix proportion. Another way is to replace cement with PFA or other cementatious inert material, but the strength and workability of mix have to be assured.

Bests,
