Dear Experts,
Greetings of the day.
This is about AISI SS 304L as per ASTM A276M or DIN 1.4301 in accordance to DIN EN 10088-1/2/3.
The standards missout on the permissible values for some of the impurities. During our tests and analysis of the raw material it was observed that Copper (Cu) was 0.6%, Molybdenum (Mo) was 0.6% and Vanadium (V) was 0.06%. Would someone throw light on what would be the permissible or max values for theses impurities.
Through our various compilations visiting technical information, patents and various websites, the values of Mo and Cu upto 2% and V upto 0.1% is acceptable, but our customer is not in favour. Need some documentation and/or reference from the standards to authenticate.
Please share your thoughts.
Regards.

If it is not listed in the specification, and it does not make this a different alloy, then there is no limit.
The Mo will have no effect other than improving the pitting resistance. And at $12/lb someone screwed up.
The Cu can make welding a bit more difficult, but this is usually only an issue in thin wall autogenous welds.
The V has little effect if your C is low.
If your customer gave you a spec with limits on residuals then you must follow that.
Otherwise this meets ASTM.
It would not meet aerospace specs as they have some catch-all limits on uncontrolled additions.

Get to the basics.
Start with the purchase order. Did your customer specify the residual values?
Is there a client's spec involved?
If both the above answers are NO, then you are fine, else....
