I have recently received my P.Eng. designation (Ontario, Canada). As part of becoming a professional, I understand my exposure to liability for my actions both inside and outside of my work has increased significantly. To this end, I am looking into liability insurance. My current thoughts are the following:
- Ensure I am listed on my firm’s liability insurance policy for coverage regarding work on my firm’s projects. Obtain a copy of this policy for my personal records.
- Join Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) to get automatic secondary liability insurance to cover work outside of employment (opinions?), work for a previous employer, firm bankruptcy, and retirement.
Can anyone offer any opinions or advice on this topic? What sort of insurance policies or other protection do others obtain/ arrange?
