Hi everyone,

Can anyone steer me to a chemical compatabilty chart for PH 15-7 Mo SS in DI water?

Not sure about the ion pickup - the application is for a water-water mixing valve (cold / hot) with max temp of 200F.

I'm guessing we should play it safe with 316L?

Maybe i've not understood well, but DI means de-ionized water?
Or there is something else ?
I think that every SS could perform well in DI water but to be sure it's necessary to know excatly the composition and conditions.

Hi Vict,

You would think so, but we have physical evidence that DI water pits most 300 series SS other than 316SS...

Sorry, didn't mean most....at least the 302, 303 and 304 SS materials we've used in past applications.....

I would suggest something better than 316L for hot service. I always worry about external CSCC. You would have better pitting resistance, strength and CSCC resistance from alloys such as AL-6XN or 2205.

Hi Glen

It would be necessary to know exactly the composition of the water you are considering. To me seem very strange that a 304 SS would pit if you don t have any chloride in the water. Also pitting depends on aeration of the water and other factors.
Is it a mixing valve? could be cavitation? there are so many explanation for a failure that it would be necessary to have all the information to give a reliable material selection.
