Hi,

Could someone please tell me what phase shift monitoring is, how it works and what it protects interms of grid generation?

From what I have read it seems to me that it provides a function similar to over/under frequency protection.

Thanks

You may be looking for something like In their 1133 info they refer to “synchrophasors.” There is some online documentation. Lower left side of the 1133 page. They are supposed to have a field-portable version eventually.

I think BC Hydro was doing some work on power-system state estimation—I’m not sure of that’s related to what you need—search on that phrase. Also in IEEE you might search for C Henville.

ERCOT did some studies ~8 yr ago. Their paper described a visualization of "twisting" in their transmission system. ISTR they used GOES or GPS synchronization, but the individual nodes were a bit pricey. Don't know if they have anything online.
