What version are you running?

Are you getting anything to show?
Are you getting the filename accross the bottom?
How big is the pic (shouldn't matter though)?
Is the pic in the project folder (I think IV will loose it upon re-open, but it should show first placement).

I believe that you need to have mspaint set as your default image viewer (in windows)

-Start new sketch
-insert image
-you can dimension, rotate, and constrain image as required
-finish sketch
-create decal from inserted image,

Nothing shows...It worked well when I tried it a while ago. You know when it's going to work because a small box appears on the sketch. Now all I get is a small dot showing the insertion point. When I click I get a message...Could not insert object.

The filename cannot be seen anywhere on the screen.

File is 80 KB

The picture is in the project directory.

I have tried it on a new sketch also in a new part...still wont work.

I have found the answer...

The file to be inserted has to be true *.bmp file.

I could only get it to work by opening a *.bmp file with MS Paint and then saving it again...with MS Paint.

The help files within Inventor are a bit ambiguous. They imply that there a many file types that Inventor can open. The truth is that it can only recognise true window bitmaps.

Glad you found the answer. I always thought a .bmp is the same as a .bmp BUT you never know.

There are a couple add-ins etc to allow better use of images. Sean's i-tweak will help with some set-up issues of images. I think you can import .jpg and other files also. There is also a little utility posted on his forum to allow a user to automatically slice and re-arrange a image so that you can more easily use a bitmap as a texture. Textures will show up in a .dwf file, while decals do not. It is basically the only way to have a label show up in a .dwf file. If you use a bmp as a texture, IV will divide it into quarters, and re-arrange it for tiling reasons.
