pipe requirement

Hi, is it ok to use copper pipe in residences for gas supply for water heaters, ovens, etc.

Or does it have to be black iron?

according to the latest years' codes?

see NFPA 54, or local codes (BOCA, etc.) Normally steel is used to the spec's of the local code.

NFPA 54 allows copper pipe to be use. See section on piping material.
