Hell all,

I am doing a thermal stress analyse (due to expansion ) in a pipe and the initial boundary condition to the ends of pipe would be encastre ( 06 dof lockeds )but I would need to release the radial expansion only in the ends keeping the encastre ( like a gap or "floating encastre" )this is due to the equipment where the pipe will be connected will get a radial expansion, too, so I will not have a radial diferential displacement in this point.
How could I simulate this ?

Thanks

If I understand your question correctly, you would like to analysis a pipe that is clamped at the ends and the clamp or welded to an object that could expands. Right? There are few questions I need to clarifier first.

1) Does the temperature of the pipe heat up and expand too? Are they same temperature?

2) Is the pipe welded to the clamp or the object? Please clarifier the ending boundary condition in what would happen in operation.

I am by no means ABAQUS expert, but could you put a local cylindrical coordinate system there, and allow radial displacement while suppressing all other degrees of freedom?
