Pipe Supports Reactions for Basic Loads

Dear Caesar Experts,
Our stress engineer gives me reactions at pipe supports and I design pipe supports for these reactions. I need reactions for the basic loads (pipe dead weight, pipe operating weight, temperature, pressure, and wind, …) and I would combine them. However he told me that Caesar allows to use only “default” load combinations as listed below but I am not convinced yet. Is this correct that you cannot inquire the reactions for the basic loads only? Thank you very much, iv

You have been mis-informed. Caesar II allows the user to define any valid single load-case or combination of existing loads.

For example, in some calcs I have defined around 90 load cases to cover many single cases such as weight filled and empty, hydrotest, sustained stress, several thermal scenarios, operating loads, wind, seismic and combinations of all of these.

You should however be careful about combining results outside of Caesar II. That can only be done if all the load cases are linear, i.e., no one way restraints or supports lifting off, no gaps in restraints, no friction forces acting. This is not recommended.

IMHO, the best way to get the results you need is to properly define all the cases you need in the Caesar analysis options, making use of the algebraic and absolute combination methods in particular.
