Hi all,

for the corroded pipeline, the ASME B31G uses the depth and the lengths of the corrosions to determine the remaining strength. Is there an effect of the width of the SCC colonies on the mechanical resistance of the pipeline?

Thank you

Not familiar w/that spec., but do you mean MIC colonies instead of SCC?

SCC: Stress Corrosion Cracking

Yes, I've been involved w/SCC for about 35 years or more, and have never heard of SCC colonies.

To metal guy.
It is possible that there is a problem of terminology as shown by Steve. Any way, you can do a Google search on "SCC colonies" and you will see.

SCC on the OD surface of gas pipelines has long been recognized. When SCC occurs, it is manifested in clusters of multiple cracks (colonies). It is not to be associated with the growth of colonies of micro-organisms related to MIC.
