Pipes Penetration in Concrete Beam

Dears,

I have a concrete beam with 200mm width and pipe sleeve of diam 50mm shall go through this beam vertically
- Reinforcement for this beam is 2 dia 16 , so as per code ACI318 i have to achieve cover 40 mm to stirrups and 20 mm to main RFT, for that purpose all my beams in the project shall be increased in width and it is not accepted at all.

anyone have a solution for this case?!!

Yes, more width, but apparently that is not acceptable. 200 wide beams are barely wide enough for reinforcement and placement of concrete. The other way is to miss the beams with your pipes.

It is always a difficult subject for us, structural, to allow holes in our beams. Because one have to assume a great deal of hypothesis so at the end of the day you are no certain how will it work and how the stress is distributed. But there is on thing sure: an opening where ever it is placed, whatever the diameter is; it will weaken the design.

So my advice to you is to find a way around with the installations team, because often it is cheaper to bend a tube than taking special provisions for a perforated beam.
