We have severe pitting issue in duplex stainless steel (A2205) piping and equipments in CTA plant.
Pitting occurs mostly in the stream containing acetic acid with high bromide content.
Following is the composition of the stream.
Acetic acid: > 70%
Water: 4 – 10%
Catalyst: 1.6 to 3 % (MnBr, Mn-acetate, Cobalt acetate)
Temperature: 90 – 120 degree

Can anyone share his experience, what is maximum permitted bromide content in acetic acid for duplex stainless at above temperature range.
