Hi,
we are having one 70MW gas Turbine Generator with one RTD only in the Turbine end and 3 RTD in the Exciter end. Total 6 in each side (including three spares). now 5 Rtds bad in the Turbine end left only one is healthy.

So its a question whether we can run the unit with One RTD in Turbine side or not. Repair/replace RTD is not easy and only it can be replaced during the rewinding.

I prefer, till the rewinding job is planned, we shall run the unit with monitoring of remaining RTD temperature, cooling air temperatures along with healthy Electrical protections. As long as Electrical Protection is there we can Run the unit till the Rewinding commenced instead keeping the unit standstill due RTD issue with out any Generation.
If any one not agree this move please may provide your comments. Also if agreeing please may provide additional items to be taken care during operation with less RTds.

The make of this unit is GE with 13.8KV, 70MW Gas Turbine Generator.

Thanks.

Sounds like you have no other option. Maybe limit the reactive power to keep well below the MVA rating of the generator would be a good idea.

My vote, for what it's worth (nothing), is go for it.
