Hi all,

I've been attempting to constrain a plane for hours. I was hoping to seek help from you experienced professionals.

GIVEN:
- A circle that sits on a plane
- A line that sits on a different plane a distance away from the circle plane, also at various angles from.

What I am trying to do is to create a plane that rotates about the line but remains tangent to the edge of the circle. So as the circle plane changes the plane will always rotate about the line to remain tangent.

This is been stumping me all day. I was hoping someone could assist me in anyway. Thank you kindly!

Unfortunately. CATIA is at work. I could, however, draw something up and upload it? Would that help?

Here is a best I could do. As I do not have access at work to upload pictures.

I want a plane that lies on the line (rotates about it) and surface tangent to the circle's edge.

If that makes sense.

Thanks a million

hi,

try these options.

Create a circle in any plane. draw a line tangent to it in the part design workbench. Using reference planes option make a plane passing through a point on this line and parallel to any of the datum planes using " parallel through point " submenu.

Make a 3d line using ref lines option. create a plane passing through this line and the tangent line using the option"through two lines" option.

Make a plane using "angle normal to plane" option by specifying the just created 3d line as rotation axis and the reference plane of as the plane just created using two lines.

please try this and get back if any help required.

not an easy one:

[ol 1]
[li]Create a plant P normal to your line[/li]
[li]Project your circle to the plane P = Ellipse E[/li]
[li]Get point O = intersection of your line and the plane P[/li]
[li]Create line L tangent to Ellipse E passing by point O[/li]
[li]Point T is the intersection on Ellipse E and line L (where the line is tangent)[/li]
[li]project Point T to circle using your line as direction, this is point Z[/li]
[/ol]

Create your requested plane passing by Z and your line

Note that 2,3,4,5 can be done is a sketch, its easier
