Plastic Hinges and Material Non-linearity

If we do not apply plastic hinges to the beams and columns but we apply Non-linear stress-strain curve in the material property for concrete and reinforcement. Will the model going to consider the material non-linearity ?

Therefore, what is the reason behind providing the plastic hinges in the Numerical model while carrying out Non-linear analysis. ?
