Hi All!

Looking for some examples of plastic material callouts on part drawings.

When listing the material, what information is necessary for plastics? Manufacturer? Trade name? Color?

Are any types of material properties ever listed?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

If it's critical we write a spec and then have an approved material list for that spec. I never use manufacture or trade names on a drawing, they come and go far too frequently. Color is a big mess beyond black and natural (and those can be difficult too if you're sensitive to small differences). We call out Pantone colors but I hate that system. If the properties are not too important then I just call out something like polyamide 6/6 30% glass filled.

You can usually find an astm material spec. that will cover a lot of ground regarding material properties, including some you may not care about. When citing such specs, I will usually include notes that certain tests are not required.
