Lexan[sup]®[/sup] is the GE Plastics trademark for polycarbonate. This is used commonly for applications like yours. Other companies produce polycarbonate - try Calibre[sup]®[/sup] from Dow and Apec[sup]®[/sup], Makrolon[sup]®[/sup] and Makrofol[sup]®[/sup] from Bayer. Websites for these companies are:

Acrylic is much better to abrasion than normal polycarbonate, and somewhat less expensive.

It is sometimes known by the trade names, Perspex, Plexiglass, Shinkolite or Oroglass.

It has a brittle type break, which might be a problem.

PC can be had with a treatment to improve it's scratch resistance, but that is even more expensive
