Hi,
I am a bit confused about the use of the ratio EV2/EV1 , what is it for really ? some of my colleagues thinks its the coefficient of reaction of soil K which is obviously not ! .On the other hand ,some people think that PLT serves to control the quality of compaction whereas to my knowledge it is only used to confirm that the modulus E for each layer of the pavement meet the hypothesis used in their design . Correct me if i am wrong !

killswitchengage, could you share with us the equation that shows the ratio EV2/EV1?

its not an equation ,its just an old trick used by the French specifically to judge the compaction quality of an embankment , if its over 2 then its not well compacted

I am not sure about that ratio but, If you want to check field compaction, a sand cone test is much more easier, economical and appropriate than a plate bearing test...
