Hi everyone.

Would anybody be able to lead me in the right direction in finding a reference where it says that I can take off a cap and replace it with a plate for a pressure vessel. The pressure vessel is rated at 70 psig.

Thanks in advance,

What construction code? If it is Section VIII Div 1, look at UG-32.

What is the "plate" made of, how is it made, and how are you going to attach it safely?

What does your PV insurance company say about the change?

I read UG-32, and correct me if I'm wrong, is used for creating a head with respect to ASME section viii, division 1.

I'm trying to cut an existing nozzle/cap and put a lapped patch over it. What I found was API 653 section 9.3.2

Is there any more references I can go by and would API 653 section 9.3.2 be a sufficient reference?

Thanks in advance,

Also the shell thickness is 5/8". Would this still be allowed to put a lapped patch on?

It states if the shell is greater than 1/2" then I will not be able to, is this correct? If so where can I find a method to patching a 5/8" thick shell?

Thanks in advance,
