Hi,

A plate (A105) with a tappered bore (1/2") is to be installed between a pair of flanges (B16.5).

The logical thing is to use a plate with a thickness equal to the orifice flange's for the corresponding pressure class and diameter. And then make the bore to the required size.

Is there any reference to use for the calculations of this plate thickness?

As an alternative to an orifice plate standard, you could design it as a blank, using the delta pressure across the plate as the pressure for design. Equations for designing blanks can be found in piping codes. You would be very much thicker than necessary if you use the thickness of a flange.
