Plate with a Hole

I have one plate (6x1.5x.25) with a hole in the center and am loading at one end in axial direction (tensile)with the other end fixed. What is is the best location to see the stress due to net cross-section in my FEA. That is if I have a .5" hole in a 1.5" wide plate and .25" thick and say a load of 100lb. The stress due to net cross-section =100/(.25*(1.5-.5))= 400psi. I want to know which is the best location to "look" for this stress in terms of a relation w.r.t. the hole.Thanks in advance.

I am not sure where you will see stresses due to the net section. However it is possible to see the stresses due to the gross section (base stresses). You just need to move away from the hole. Since your stresses are axial they will be uniform across the section once you go away from the hole. I imagine that the reason for the question is that you may be trying to determine some kind of stress concentration factor. Is it correct?

However you may also need to be away from the end that you have fixed. Because you may see some artificially high stresses at the constraint.

My guess is, at a section passing through the centre of the hole, if you are interested in the maximum stresses.
 
look on a plane perpendicular to the load and cutting through the center of the hole. The max stress will be immediately adjacent to the hole, from simple stress concentration theory.

For infinite plate, the maximum stress around the hole normal to the load is 3 times the nominal stress.
