Just wondering if anyone has any examples for using the Hardening Soil model in Plaxis? Specifically looking for examples on:

1) the GIR and testing data
2) and how that is used in the hardening soil model of one of your soils (so snips of the material + soil model input parameters)

Thanks in advance

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum/topic however still not completely used to Eng-Tips

you need to create a table of parameters like you would for any interpretative report, so layering, unit weight, firction angle, young's modulus. I think those are your most critical parameters for HS model.

In HS, all stiffness parameters are taken to a 100kPa reference pressure. E50ref, Eoedref, Euref. To calculate E50ref etc, you need to work out sig1 and sig3.

Have a look at the plaxis material models document, they are free online

You can do a reasonable parameterization for HS and HS Small using CPTu and sCPTu data and the guidance in the plaxis material models manual that EireChch recognize.

Thanks guys
Decided to go with HSsmall soil model as we have pressuremeter readings
However a bit stuck on how to interpret these to E50ref, Eoedref, Eurref, G0 and gamma0.7

Does anyone know of any good resources, worked examples of taking pressuremeter results through to Plaxis 3D inputs?

Pressure meter will give you stiffness and friction angle.

You will need G0, unless you have geophysics you will need correlations. Harry Poulos has published one for SPT so you can take that as a good reference. Take gamma0.7 as default used in Plaxis.

I am happy to work through it with you if you can give specific examples of where you are stuck.
