This is a question on thermal cracking.
I need to crack a TRIMER (explosive)which has a decomposition temp of 130 C. When this TRIMER is made into a 40% soln using DIETHYL MELONATE, the decomposition temp is 240 C and is quite stable. The solvent ( ie Diethyl malonate has a B.P of 198 C)
Now the cracked product has a B.P of 298 C.
Can this charge be suspended from top of a vertical pipe? (say 1"NB), and maintain the atmosphere at abt 250 C. Will the cracking take place? Is so, how to calculate the length of the pipe required ? (ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS 4 THE DESIGN)? We're lookin for a charge oF only about 1 kg/hr.
mOST IMPORTANT OF ALL CAN WE USE vacuum SO AS TO REDUCE THE TEMPERATURE, and in that case will decomposition take place ??? And is it safe ???
THANKYOU ! Please help !
