I am looking for a book on the FORTRAN programming language. Keep in mind that I have very limited programming experience.

The application will be to write user defined subroutines for a mechanical system simulation package called ADAMS. Thanks!

Cheers,

Chris

If you have a modest experience with Fortran, the best text
is the guide and reference books which come with the compiler that you are using. There are also numerous texts providing libraries of mathematical sub-routines which save you time and effort in writing routines already available. One such book is "NSWC Library of Mathematics Subroutines" by Alfred H. Morris, Jr. of the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

I'm assuming here that you are using Fortran 90 or 95 ( not 77 ). If you aren't using F90/95... I highly suggest that you start using it.

Fortran for Scientist and Engineers ( I think this is the title, my books at home )
by Lahey, Ellis, et al. This book is pretty good for beginners I think.

Fortran 90 Handbook by Brainard, Adams et al
Fortran 95 Handbook " " "

Upgrading to Fortran 90 by Cooper Redwine ( I don't have this one, but is very well
liked by others )

Fortran 90 Explained ( I think that's the title, I don't have this one either )
by M. Metcalf, this book is also very popular

Dan :)

A slight correction to the above post. The first book I listed should be...

Fortran 90 Programming, by Ellis, Philips, Lahey

Dan :)
