Plot Plan: Ion Exchange

Hi,
I could not find anything about specific positioning of ion exchange vessels and associated acid caustic tanks for designing a plot plan.
-Are they all necessarily indoors?
-Do we need to put the just in ONE row? or if we have lot of them, can we put in some rows?
-If we have external regeneration, should it be in front of them or at the same row?
Any experience?

Your question s quite general but,

IX vessels don't need to be indoors, unless there is a specific requirement for winterisation.

Layout depends on your flow and No. of vessles. i.e. is the flow high, meaning that you require parallel flow trains? If so, several rows of normally three (lead, secondary and tail column)may be required. I recently worked on a large hydromet project where we had 7 parallel trains of 3 colmuns in series to treat a total design flow of approx 2300 m3/h.

Ion exchange columns are typically all manifolded up with auto on/off solenoid valves running down the side of each train to automatically switch the columns from tail, to secondary, to lead and then to regen, once the resin is loaded.
