I would like to define a pmi "balloon" with a triangular shape to use as a flag note in order to reference the number of a note defined elsewhere in my data package. There is a need to be able to edit the number inside the triangle as well for reuse. Thus far I've tried the following:

1) Use pmi balloon feature - fail, only allows for circular balloon
2) Create triangular balloon note in drafting and create a custom symbol from this feature - fail, does not allow number to be edited when placed as pmi in model view
3) Create a note with a sketched triangle in drafting and create a custom symbol from these features - fail, again does not allow number to be edited when placed as pmi in model view.
4) Redo 2), but define the text as a reference to an attribute I define in the symbol - fail, once again does not allow number to be edited when placed as pmi in model view.

I think the custom symbol method is my best shot at getting this done, but thus far the number inside the balloon has always been fixed. I'd like to not have to define several dozen symbols, each with a different number. Does anyone have a way to make this type of symbol and allow the text inside to be modified?

Running NX 9.0.2.5

Thanks in advance. Regards, Jon

When trying option 3, did you set the text to Arbitrary? The default is Mandatory which is not editable. Do not smash the symbol when inserting into part.

I am using this method in NX8.5

Thanks Mike.

Setting the text to arbitrary did the trick.
