Point Clouds to 3D Model 1

I have point cloud data with lots of detail which I need to convert to a 3D model in Solid Works 2008 Premium. It seems that on all tutorials it is expected of the user to “fix” the model after it has been created. I am not able to see the actual component and there is quite a lot of detail on it so if I “fix” it, the component will certainly lose accuracy rendering my work useless. Is there any way of converting the data “as is” into a solid model?(i.e. connecting all points to form a solid mass)

Also, is the order of the coordinates relevant?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The order of points is not important.

There are options to delete points from the cloud that look out of place from what shape is expected. By doing this you'll get a smother resultant shape. Removed points can be restored at any time later.

There are also options for patching the mesh differently. The first time I used ScanTo3d I was surprised at how smooth the resultant surface was. You may want to try several models and use different approaches to define the point cloud surface.If your point cloud does represent a solid model with top and bottom surfaces I'm not sure if you can do a direct solid but you can do 2 surface meshes in separate parts and use Insert > Part in one part to insert the other's data.
