Point Load on Flange of CFS Stud

I have an industrial client that wants to connect a large unistrut L bracket off of a stud with 3/8" dia bolts.

Trying to figure out how to check the tension force on the 2 inch flange. I might just wrap the stud locally with a track.

Does anyone have a methodology to check for flange local bending of a cold formed stud in the US?

Ive checked AISI S100-16 and this doesnt seem to be addressed.

I can't think of any. I just checked Yu's text on the subject and didn't see anything. To be honest, as thin as those elements are.....you are likely to get a displacement that will be a issue. (Even if the stress works.) If you have to evaluate it....some type of elastic analysis is probably in order.

Why not make the connection btwn. the ‘unistrut L’ frame vert. member and the CF stl. stud to the back (outside) of the web of the stl. stud? Then the three bolts are in single shear and bearing btwn. the Unistrut vert. and the stud web. You could add a 5” vert. by 3” wide by some thk. stiffener pl. screwed flat to the inside of the stud web to improve the bolt bearing area and to distrib. the concentrated bolt load to the stud web, then drill the bolt hole. This puts the load to the stud, nearer the shear center of the stl. stud, a good deal from the stud loading standpoint. If connecting to the stl. stud flg., you could look for a formed angle shape 2” (to the inside of the stud flg.) by 3” (to the stud web) by 4’ long, with a radius which would fit inside the full ht. stud, and be screwed to the stud flg. and web, and be a stiffener/strengthener picking up all three bolts.
 
I would use the same check and look at the flange as if it were a leg of a deep leg deflection track. CFSEI has a technical bulletin on how to check the capacity of a single flange on a deep leg deflection track. You could use the same methodology to see if the flange element would fail. It may not be a perfect answer, but it should give you an idea as to whether or not you'll experience local buckling of the
flange.

 
Can you make the support L shaped and attach to the web?
