Pole Buildings (Post Frame Bldg Design) 3

Does anyone know of a good book for doing structural calcs for pole buildings? I have the National Frame Builders Assoc. Design Manual but it discourages the use of knee braces and does not cover other types of reiforcement very well. I also have the DAFI program available from their web site. Some of the buildings I have been asked to design cannot be justified by calculations without using some form of bracing. I had to bow out of one project because it was in a high wind area and had a very large sail area.

has some examples (with and without knee braces) and gives as a reference the ellusive (since I haven't bought it yet) American Society of Agricultural Engineers' EP 486 "Post and Pole Foundation Design" and Pole Building Design from the American Wood Preservers Institute. Hmmm...

The best article I ever found on engineering pole buildings is entitled "Building Code Requirements for Pole Type Buildings" by Jerry J. Barbera, PE. It was to be presented at the International Conference on Timber Engineering September 22, 1988. This goes through step by step in designing pole buildings.
