I'm doing a preliminary design for a dredge rail and I'm trying to decide what type of foundation to use for the posts. Here's the info:

No soils information (preliminary design)
Post Height: approx 3'
Vertical load: approx 1 kip
Horizontal load: 6 kips

I' thinking that the posts could just be embedded in a cylindrical foundation and designed like a pile using L-pile. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This is dredging system by Liquid Waste Technology. If anyone has any experience with them please let me know.

You can use the pole embedment equations found in IBC Chapter 18 equation 18-1 or 18-2. Without a soils report, use conservative lateral bearing values for the soil.
