Hi,

I want to polish up some copper heat shields we will be using in a test bed. What is the best way to do this? The techs I talked to have used Semi-chrome (a household polish) followed by Acetone and not had outgassing problems. I was hoping someone might have a better idea or a confirmation that this works.

I was told to stay away from any polishes that have wax binders in them.

Best,
Dan

Copper polishes have waxes in them to protect the polished copper from quickly retarnishing, otherwise why bother to polish? However, if outgasing is critical you should use only qualified products. The techs experience is a good place to start if you don't have anything else to go on.
