Are there any potential "itch" or squeek issues with using a 20% GF Nylon substrate with a soft PVC overmold?

How about a 20% GFNylon against an Olefin?

Any feedback or direction to additional resoures would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
RonB

I don't know but if you do have problems you should be able to fix them with additives that alter friction. Squeak is due to stick-slip sliding of one material on the other.

Thanks Chris - good to know we can likely handle it w/ additives if need be. Any suggestions on where I might find a cBSR ompatability matrix of some sort?

Hi PolyMaker,

What you ask is an interesting question. I don't know of one. As the effect relies on surface friction, it would be very sensitive to additives including antioxidants, UV stabilizers, slip aids, anti-blocks etc.. That means that you can't predict what a polymer pair will do because it's more about the additives than the polymers themselves.

When I worked at BASF they claimed that their ABS/PA blend never squeaked and that was a selling point (commercial name Terblend N). I always wondered why that would be.

Chris

It can be important on interior trim and dashboard components on cars.

BASFs opposition unkindly refereed to that range as Terdblend

Oh, I understand why no squeak is important but not why an ABS nylon blend would have that property.

Mechanically, it's a lot like ABS/PC.
