Polymers in subgrade 1

Hi All,

Currently looking at a project that involves rectifying some verges on a haul road which is sealed.

I am looking at using a polymer in the mix to increase the strength of the existing subgrade to form the verges as a low cost solution.

My question is has anyone done this before? How successful was it? and did the verge need to be sealed or did the polymer form a hard crust when rolled???

It has been tried many times. There are numerous products on the market for that purpose....most of which do not meet their claims of success. Unless you have some particular chemical issue at hand in the subgrade, the tried and true stabilizations of cement addition, asphalt addition, aggregate addition or a combination are usually more cost effective and structurally predictable.
