I am reviewing ball valve specs from supplier in China and they are using seals made of polyphenyl PPL. I can find little or no information on this material to judge is suitability for use on boiler and pressure vessel piping. The valve supplier sent me a spec sheet that is little or no use. Anyone have any info on this stuff?

Very hard to say, as polyphenyl(ene) is a precursor chemical, not a polymer in and of itself. They could actually be using one of a number of polymers using that backbone, among them polyphenylene oxide (PPO), --- sulfide (PPS), polyphenyl sulfone (PPSU), and probably others I've never heard of.
