Greetings,

I have a project in which I would like to model a levee protected basin(in this case overtopped by surge) with culverts with one-directional valves to avoid backflow. I have setup the pond stage storages and outflow. I have also placed a link downstream of the pond with a table with tailwater information.

At this point, I simply want to set a starting water elevation at the pond (say 3' @ time=0) and see how long the culvert would take to drain the basin to El. 0' based on the pond & link differential head. Can I do this with HydroCAD?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Peter.

Peter,

Is there a way that to set a pump to begin at a certain time? I need to drain a basin with gravity flow first (as explained above) and once the basin reaches a certain water level I want to start running the pumps. I know I can set a pump on elevation which works however since the pond elevation is started a the flood elevation (higher than the pump on elevation), when I run the pond I am getting both culvert flow and pump running at t=0.

Not sure if there's a way around this. Any help Is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The pump will turn on whenever the WSE goes above a specified elevation, not below.

To model your situation you could (a) run two models, one before and one after the desired start time, or (b) you might be able to put a dam breach outlet in series with the pump, preventing any pump discharge until the specified time.
