Can anyone help with a calc for overturning or stability of a floating vessel (like a pontoon or barge)?

Thanks

Sure, what are the particulars?

lenght, beam, draft, displacement, Center of gravity, second moment of the water plane area (transverse), center of buoyancy. This information will give initial stability. Stability at extreem angles(>10 deg) is different.

GM = KM - KB = KB + BM - KG

GM positive is stable, where KG is distance from keel to center of gravity, KB keel to center of buoyancy, and BM is

BM = It / Displacement

from this you can figure out your righting moment

M = GZ * displacement

where GZ = GM sin(tha)

cheers....
