I'm wondering if the traffic level here is any indication of the popularity of Revit in the engineering community. Architects I know seem to like it. It's all some of them talk about. M/E/P engineers not so much in my experience so far.

This forum is about two weeks old, hence the low traffic. In the past, the AUGI forum would've fielded a hot Revit forum, but when they changed ISPs their old ISP refused to release their data!

The reason, I believe, that Revit MEP is not as popular as Revit Structure/Architecture is that the BIM content is not as mature for that version.

If you look at the BIM section I think you can see that there is a basis for your conclusion. I know salesman trying to sell BIM products to engineers, and it is a struggle. It is a signicant changeover process (and cost) to go from CAD to BIM. It is a far larger problem for larger firms. I think some will be forced eventually to change, but until that time I am not sure we will see much in the way of change. I know of one architectural firm that will not work with 2D firms, and I have seen owner contracts that require BIM.

I am a big fan of BIM, but having implmented this in our small office, I am very familiar with the problems changing over.

The McGraw-Hill Smart Market Report from early 2010 showed survey results of >50% penetration in the Architectural/vertical construction market, and growing rapidly (more than 10% since 2009's Smart Market Report).
