Position determined by assembly

I am having issues with linking geometry for the sake of top down modeling. For example, lets say I have an upper level assembly and I have a couple components inside that are linking geometry to other components. As soon as I rename or do a save as to the assembly, my links don't function properly anymore. The geometry and linked parts exist appropriately, but the positioning of the parts is still being determined by the old assembly. Here is what the infomation window looks like when I right click on the wave link feature and do an information.

Defining Part for Linked Face(37): NG50IGV.BLADE_COLD.A1 (Fully Loaded)

Defining Feature for Linked Face(37): Linked Body(4)

Position determined by assembly : 762757_101_01 (Unloaded)

Link Status : Up to Date

If anyone could tell me how I might be able to change which assembly is determining the position, that would be great. Thanks.

That is correct. Note that the status says "Up to Date", meaning that the link should still work. Try changing the other part temporarily and performing an update to test this so that you can demonstrate for yourself that it is working. I wouldn't be so sure that they aren't functioning properly. In doing some investigations I would have you fully open both parent and child components in order that all the data is accessible to NX, whenever this is not the case then it may not recognize that the parent body has changed.

Now the possibility exists that while the link may be okay then you still have a problem with the orientation of the output solid, or your could have a later version of the parent not being recognized as such, possibly through substitution. In either case the best available course may be to open the original assembly or create a new one whereby the parent and child are both included and positioned correctly relative to one another. Then you should be able to go in and edit the linked parameters by selecting linked feature in the part navigator and then reselecting the bodies that you need linked. Sort of a manual update when links get lost or broken if you will.

One of the last comments you made helped me rectify the problem:

I relinked the features I needed and now it is looking at the correct assembly to find its positional information. Thanks.
