With that dimension it is very possible. The Code doesn't limit you to do the test of a vertical vessel in horizontal position.

For a vertical vessel, the Fabricator is typically state the hydro test in the design drawing for reference with both the horizontal position as new in the shop and vertical position in the field. And, you may apply them to the vessel as appropriate.

For this example, use it at your convenience to make inspection easier.

I don't know if this interpretation helps answer your question; I remember when this was issued.

"Subject Description:

Section VIII, Division 1 (1992 Edition, 1993 Addenda); UG-99(b)

Date Issued:

01/12/1995

Record Number:

BC94-414

Interpretation Number :

VIII-1-95-27

Question(s) and Reply(ies):

Question (1): Does the last sentence of UG-99(b) of Section VIII, Division 1, "All loadings that may exist during this test shall be given consideration," require that the static head that exists in a tower in the vertical position must be considered when determining the test pressure in the horizontal position?

Reply (1): No.

Question (2): Does UG-99 specify in which position a vertical tower must be hydrotested?

Reply (2): No."

You have to state on the data report that the hydro was done in the vertical position, if that is the case.

I suggest horizontal position. If it is vertical, it is difficult to inspect for any problems in the lower head.

Regards

Most shops will do it in the horizontal position unless an owner demands otherwise. When completed in the field, often will be done in the vertical position unless the fabrication is completed in the horizontal position.

Saravanan,

Explain the reason you want to do a vertical hydrotest? Is it an installed and then repaired in-situ?
