I am new to Catia (V5R21) after many years in the Pro-E world.
I am a proponent of top-down design and am trying to learn what abilities and limitations Catia has in this area.
I have learned how to add features from a skeleton model into the publication list, copy these features and paste-with-link into the child part. What I would like to better understand is what tools(if any) there are in Catia to position the copied features in the child object in other than the "default" position. It seems that the default mode is to align the absolute axis system of the skeleton with the absolute axis system of the child part. It would be great if I could somehow select a different axis system in the skeleton to "pin" the copied features in the child. I have tried making a different axis system in the skeleton "current" before doing my copy/paste, but it does not change the position of the copied features. I discovered I can reposition copied sketches in the child by changing the sketch support, but this does not help for non-sketch items (datum planes, points, surfaces, etc).
Often I wish to make a small part based on the copied features, and it seems at least "untidy" to have the axis systems nowhere near the part geometry.
It was a simple matter to do this in Pro-E as the coordinate systems (axis systems) I wished to use for placement were part of the options in the copy/paste dialog.
Is there any similar functionality in Catia V5, or am I stuck with "default" placement for everything?
I appreciate any guidance you can give me in this area.
Thanks very much.
