Hello, All:

I would appreciate any suggestion for a potting/encapsulating compound to use in a device we are constructing.

The device is custom electromagnet used on an aircraft. The potting/encapsulating compound will fill the voids around the coil and it will not be required to offer any mechanical support to the device.

The material must operate up to 25,000 feet and withstand -40C to 150 C.

Thank you for the help,

Of course, you must make sure the compound passes any muster for conductivity, outgassing or flamability that your customer may require.

Temp is no problem. Any good epoxy would fit the bill. It depends on what I noted above and how fast you want the material to pot over ---- or working time.

Tell me what the surfaces are that will be potted.

As far as altitude-----you need to have this verified and signed off on by the manufacturer of the product you choose.

what function does the potting serve? is it necessary?

consider some of the pourable silicones such as the GE 560 series or equivalent Nusil products

they will not introduce stress since they are soft at these temperatures
