Hello,

I am dealing with corrosion of electric submersible pump cable used in dewatering coalbed methane wells. I've looked at various methods of protecting the cable.

The cable has galvanized steel tape as armor. Can powder coating be successfully applied to a galvanized surface? Nobody seems to do it, probably because galvanized material protects against corrosion like powder coating does.

Also, does anyone know of some rubberized coating that can be applied to galvanized surfaces?

Powder coating is applied to galvanized surfaces all the time. You can either use an ironphosphate which slightly etches the zinc coating and allows for better paint adhesion or look at using a zinc phosphate. But this is regularly done in the metal finishing industry.
