Power at 50Hz vs 60HZ??

We are going to be building some electrical resistance heaters for a project in England (50Hz). All prior woirk has been here in the US at 60Hz.

Besides the obvious adjustment for the different operating voltage, do I need to make any adjustment in my calculations to determine the heater power output and/or operating amperage to account for the lower 50Hz frequency? Will my amperage or heater power output change at the lower frequency?

If it is a pure resistance heater it won't acre whether it is AC or Dc, let alone whather it is 50Hz or 60Hz.

If however you have a fan motor in the heater you should take care to ensure that the motor is suitable for the 50hz supply. The fan will turn more slowly on a 50Hz supply than on 60hz and you will also have to account for this as well as the voltage/frequency change.

The total energy on resistive heater is

Heat(Watts) = I_rms.V_rms=I_dc.V_dc.

As ScottyUK mentioned above, the frequency do not have any impact on the resistance heater capacity.

Dang! That looks pretty useful. Do you use it davidbeach?

I try to remember to use it on every posting. If you use it, you will have to add a lot of electrical terms to the dictionary, and it doesn't help at all with wrong words spelled correctly, but other than that I've found it to be a very useful tool.

Another concern is going to be your controller for the heating elements. If it is SCR based, make sure it can be adjusted to the different frequency to that the SCR firing is not off. If it is just a contactor, make sure you have a 50Hz rated coil. Most 60Hz coils will work on 50Hz without much trouble, but some designs may be weaker and become problematic.
