Hi all, I was wondering if any one can recommend some good books on "practical" power electronics design.
I am mainly looking for topics on microcontroller based firing schemes, inverter, chopperetc. I've read good theoretical books like power electronics by rashid, Ned Mohan but they don't cover much in a practical sense.
Thanks in advance,
Samundra

Best bet for practical is to hunt down all the various player's app notes. Start with microprocessor control of TRIACs and SCRs. You want the TRAIC and SCR maker's app notes. There are some very nice notes out there crammed with functional data. There are several development boards available that are full designs, some with various controlled outputs showing the needs of lower and higher powered outputs.

The best book IMO is 'Power Supply Design Vol 1" by Ray Ridley. I would encourage you to learn the basics of power supply design, control, magnetics etc before venturing into micro-controller based power supplies. Another popular book is 'Switch-Mode Power Supplies Spice Simulations and Practical Designs' bt Chris Basso although I found the Ridley book more tutorial and easier to read. App notes for particular IC's such as Motorola's UC384x have very good practical tutorials also.
