I work in a manufacturing industry where we want to run the generator through 1MW steam turbine. Can someone provide any online refernece or link using which I can backwork and calculate the steam required and other inputs for turbine. (or alternatively we may have the idea of the boiler required for producing the reqd. steam). Thanks.

Typically in a mfr process you would first look to see if there are any waste heat sources avaialble to provide "free" energy to generate the steam , and then size the steam turbine to produce as much power as the onsite waste heat source could make.

Building your own 1 MWe power plant from scratch using normal fuels ( oil, nat gas) is rarely as competitive as buying it from a utility- large gas fired combined cycle plants now are over 50% efficient- it is unlikely you could match that unless you can also use exhaust steam to heat part of the existing manufacturing process .

Better areas would be- reduce energy losses ( reactance , etc)

Our esteemed colleague Katmar has a free software that will help you with steam turbine calculations.

It can be found at:
Another helpful link is:
I have used them both extensively but not recently enough to remember what the differences are.

Hope those help.
