power lines used for microwave guides

I need expert opinion on the idea of using exisitng power lines to transmit telecom such as telephone and digital. The proposed idea is to use the magnetic field surrounding the cable as a wave guide to carry Maser generated voice and digital info. Supposedly, this overcomes the classical noise problem associated with power line telecom. I've heard 3 primary ojections: (1) At 60 Hz, the mag field is zero 120x per second. However I would argue that this is a fleabite vis-a-vis a 10-100 Gig signal. Also, can't dB/dt be used near crossing pts?(2) The B field is zero around a power line because the neutral return line cancels the phase line. (3) The numerous impedance variations due to junctions, etc would seriously degrade signals. Finally, how dispersive would this "medium" be, and to what effect?
